2008-09 HS Wrestling Rule Changes
It's NYWA Time!
This upcoming weekend is the first leg of the NYWA post-season. Districts will be held in Minneota on Friday 13th. The following week districts will be held in Springfield. On the weekend of the 28th will be individual regions and on the 29th will be Team regions in Tracy at the VMC. The first weekend of April will be the state tournament in Rochester. The Panthers will have a 7th & 8th grade team that will start wrestling on Thursday evening. On Friday will be the 7th & 8th grade individual tournament. On Saturday and Sunday will be the P-6 grade team and Individual Tournament. Good Luck to all the TMB Grapplers that will participate in the NYWA tournaments!

Campbell and Evans Participate in the State Tournament
Zach Campbell and Colton Evans traveled to the cities to participate in the 2009 Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament. Both wrestlers wrestled hard but lost in the first round. Campbell lost to Kyle Leduc 12-4. Unfortunately, Leduc was defeated in the next round which meant that Zach was eliminated from the tournament after the first round. Colton Evans lost in the first round to Kraig Schumm and was forced to default in the first round of wrestle backs. Congratulations on a great year Zach, Colton, and the rest of the TMB Panther Wrestling Team!!!

Panthers Send Two to State
The Panthers traveled to Luverne for the 2009 Individual Section Wrestling Tournament. When the dust settled, Zach Campbell and Colton Evans did enough to qualify for the state tournament. Zach Campbell placed first and Colton Evans placed second. Luke Prairie finished second, but lost in the true second match. Zach and Colton will leave on Wednesday for the Cities and the 2009 State Tournament. Good Luke Zach and Colton!

Panthers Participate in Team Sections
The Panthers traveled to Montevideo to take on the Wabasso Rabbits in the 2009 Team Section Wrestling Tournament. The kids wrestled tough, but came up short loosing 32-18. The Panthers will participate in Individual sections next weekend.

Panthers Loose to Adrian
It was Parent's night, but the Panthers dropped the last dual of the year to Adrian 58-3. Due to match count, the Panthers had several wrestlers not participating in the dual. There were several very close matches, but the Panthers weren't able to capitalize. The Panthers will getting ready for Team sections.

Cooreman and Campbell Win Conference Title, Team Takes 5th
The Panthers had the lead after the first round of the 2009 Camden Conference Wrestling Tournament this last Saturday. The Panthers started off the day very strong and ended up placing 5th just behind the Canby Lancers. Leading the Panthers were champions Erik Cooreman and Zach Campbell. Luke Priaire made the finals, but ran into a very tough wrestler from KMS. Place winners for the Panthers include:

Panthers Loose Two Close Matches
The Panthers traveled to Windom to take on Section foes WMLBO and Wabasso. On the first match of the night, the Panthers came close, but weren't able to pick up the win against the Wabasso Rabbits losing 32-27. In the last dual of the night, the Panthers lost another very close match to Windom 36-33. Both matches could have gone either way. The kids wrestled very well, but weren't able to squeek out a victory.

The Panthers traveled to Westbrook on Saturday to participate in the Plum Creek Wrestling Tournament. This event tournament featured 10 of the areas best teams. The tournament was won by Minneota. Results include:

The Panthers finished just 9 points behind #1 ranked Canby Lancers last Saturday in Pipestone.The Panthers had four Champions. Erik Cooreman, Zach Campbell, Jared Towne, and Luke Prairie. Team Results were Canby 248, TMB 239, Wabasso 233, Pipestone 151, Sisseton 99, and Lennox 73.

Panthers Come Close, But Lose Two
The Panthers had their hands full last Thursday night as they travled to take on the KMS Fighting Saints and the Minneota Vikings. Both teams are currently ranked in the top ten in class A. The Panthers started out the night against the Vikings, and lost 49-15. Panther winners included Joe Ruppert, Erik Cooreman, Andrew Martinez, and Luke Prairie.

Against KMS, it came down to the last match to decide the winner. The Panthers came up with some huge victories by some of their young wrestlers including pins from Joshua Coyle and Ian Mariner. Other winners include Joe Ruppert, Zach Campbell, Erik Cooreman, Jared Towne, and Luke Prairie. The Panthers dominated the lower weights, but KMS stormed back to win the final matches to beat the Panthers 42-34. "We faced to very good teams, Minnesota is currently ranked 6th in the state, and KMS is ranked 2nd in the state. We had a chance to beat KMS, but we let them off the hook by allowing them to many pins and bonus points" stated Coach Karl Campbell.

Panthers Place Fourth in Montevideo
The Panthers started off very slow but ended with some great matches in Montevideo on Saturday. The Panthers finish fourth behind tournament champion Dawson Boyd Laq Qui Parle Valley. "The team had a sluggish opening round, losing a number of close matches. However, the final round of the tournament the kids wrestled alot better which enabled the team to finish ahead of Grand Rapids in the point totals" stated Coach Campbell. Individually Joe Ruppert, Ian Mariner, and Andrew Martinez all had good showings. Zach Campbell and Luke Prairie both defeated Dawson-Boyd/LQPV wrestlers in the finals by wide margins, and both remain undeafeated on the season. Tyler Bauer lost a hard fought battle in the finals to Wollum of Canby by giving up a takedown with 15 seconds left in the match to lose 3-1. Erik Cooreman had a tough 130 pound weight class and suffered his first loss of the season in the semi finals, and ended up in third place on the day.

In the B-squad tournament, Scott Vue was the lone panther champ at 145. Scott had exciting one point wins in both the semi's and the finals. Brandon Schroeder, Zach Iverson, and Josh Coyle all finished 3rd.

Several Wrestlers Reach Wrestling Milestones
Going into the Christmas break, several wrestlers have reach some outstanding milestones. Tyler Bauer won his 60th match; Erik Cooreman got his 25th career pin and 60th win; Luke Prairie got his 75th career pin, and zach campbell got his 50th career pin. Great job Panthersw!

Panthers Improve to 11-5
The Panthers Wrestling Team improved to a 11-4 dual record while placing 2nd in the Canby Triangular4. The Panthers dominated both Montevideo and Ortonville, but lost a tight match to #1 ranked Canby. The Panthers beat Montevideo 51-19 by getting wins from Joe Ruppert, Cody Christian, Zach Campbell, Erik Cooreman, Luke Prairie, Aaron Hohler, Eddie Anderson, Matt Wakefield, Andrew Martinez, and Tyler Bauer.

The Panthers lost a close match to Canby 44-25. The score doesn't reflect the wrestling. The Panthers lost a few very close matches and had two starters not in the lineup. Winning for the Panthers against Canby was Joe Ruppert, Zach Campbell, Erik Cooreman, Jared Towne, and Luke Prairie.

The Panthers came right back and rolled over Ortonville 78-5. Winning for the Panthers included Brandon Schroeder, Cody Christian, Asutin Peterson, Bee Thao, Erik Cooreman, Jared Towne, Josh Coyle, Ian Mariner, Aaron Hohler, Eddie Anderson, Andrew Martinez, Matt Wakefield, and Tyler Bauer.

Panthers Crush Tigers
The Panthers hosted the Marshall Tigers and cruised to a 49-16 victory. The Panthers won 10 matches against the Tigers with pins by Jared Towne, Aaron Hohler, Noah VanNevel, and Andrew Martinez.

Panthers Do Well In Truman
Thursday, Decembert 11th, Friday the 12th, and Saturday the 13th. Thursday the varsity wrestled in Truman. The scores were as follows:

Overall the kids competed very well at this meet. Both LCWM and Madelia-Truman were ranked in the top ten in the state in the class A polls. Matt Wakefield almost scored a takedown as time expired which would have won the dual against LCWM. The Panthers had three starters out against Madelia and Lake Crystal. Brad Schmidt had a huge come from behind pin in the Madelia dual which helped to seal the win in that match. Luke Prairie defeated the number 3 ranked kid at 152 from M-T. Luke was weighed in at 145, but was bumped him up to 152 for the matchup for the team. The following individuals went 3-0 at the meet: Joe Ruppert, Zach Campbell, and Luke Prairie. Tyler Bauer, Erik Cooreman, Ian Mariner all went 2-0. Josh Coyle went 2-1. Tyler Bauer also got his 60th career victory.

Panthers Travel to Redwood Falls
The Panthers wrestled well in Redwood Falls. In there first two duals, the Panthers squared off against Morris and Redwood Valley and came away with two victories. In the championship match, they competed against Dawson Boyd/LQP and had some weights where there inexperience at some weights showed. Andrew Martinez was out with an injury at 215 which cost the Panthers some points against DBLQP. Zach Campbell, Erik Cooreman, and Luke Prairie each went 3-0 on the day. Junior Erik Cooreman reached the 25 career pins milestone Thursday night. Sophomore Zach Campbell reached the 50 career pins milestone on Saturday. Junior Luke Prairie reached the 75 career pins on Saturday. Joe Ruppert, Cody Christian, Bee Thao, Ian Mariner, Marcus Stefanic, Colton Evans, and Tyler Bauer all picked up 2 wins on the day. Saturday was 8th grader Bee Thaos first career varstiy start for the panthers. Bee wrestled extremely well in all three matches enroute to his two wins. Team wise our record is 4-1 after the first week compared to 1-4 one year ago after the first week.

Panthers Start 2-0 on the Year
Panthers traveled to Lamberton for the first action of the year. This year's squad features 5 state ranked kids, several returing letter winners, and a few new faces to the high school program. Seven of the varsity wrestlers went 2-0 on day to include: Joe Ruppert, Erik Cooreman, Zach Campbell, Luke Prairie, Marc Stefanic, Colton Evans, and Tyler Bauer. Luke, Marc, and Tyler all had two pins on the day. Both Joe and Marcus wrestled a limited amount of varsity last year, but both looked very good on in this tri. Erik, Zach and Colton received a total of 4 forfeits at the event. The other teams had kids to put in but chose not too wrestle them which shows the respect they have for those individuals. Josh Coyle and JC DeWitte made their first varsity starts. Josh majored his opponent from Pipestone in a dominant performance for his first varsty win as a 7th grader. JC was enroute to his first win against rrc/wwg but was caught in a headlock at the 5:00 mark and lost by fall holding a commanding point lead at the time. Jared Towne lost a heartbreaker against a good opponent from Pipestone losing on a last second reversal 11-10 as time expired. Ian Mariner had a great performance against an older opponent from rrc/wwg winning by decision. Cody Christian went 1-1 on the day with a quick fall against Pipestone and a loss to a state to state ranked opponent. The Panthers started quickly and finished strong.

2008-09 Season Starts November 24th
The 2008-09 wrestling season will get underway on Monday, November 24th. Practices will once again be held at the VMC in downtown Tracy. This year's team is once again led by Head Coach Karl Campbell and by returning State entrants Zach Campbell, Eric Cooreman, Luke Prairie, and Colton Evans.
